An eventful day of activities organized by Gaya Travel Magazine & Tourism Malaysia, after checking in early at the Grand Sentosa Hotel at Plaza Sentosa in Johor Bahru.

The Singapore team, led by Malcolm Chen and included myself, Robert and John were treated to a tour of the hotel’s facilities and of the shopping complex of Plaza Sentosa.

This was then followed by a sumptuous dinner at the 6 Corner Seafood restaurant where we were served with deep fried prawns, squid, black pepper crabs and Tom Yam soup to name a few.

The Post-dinner activity was a visit to the JB Bazaar and a novelty ride on old school tri-shaws. The night concluded with supper with Mee Rebus being served in the traditional JB style.

Fabulous Food 1Malaysia 2011, a set on Flickr.

I had the unique privilege of traveling with the Tourism Malaysia Singapore delegation to the launch of this food event in Taman Jaya, Johor in Malaysia, the rain did little to dampen the festive mood of the event which was officiated by the Minister of Tourism YB Dato Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

The event showcased the iconic street food of Malaysia, the most notable dishes were the Char Kueh Teow (Fried Noodles), Nasi Briyani and Rendang, these 3 dishes represent the major races (Chinese, Indian and Malay) of Malaysia for this year’s campaign, which is part of the Fabulous Food 1 Malaysia (FF1M), a 3 month campaign running from October to December with a different theme for each month, the Street and Restaurant food being the theme for the month of December.
